Our first ultra-marathon! We ran 100K on beautiful trails along the Pacific coast of Marin. It was perfect weather (only one 5-mile exposed stretch of trail was uncomfortably warm) and a great day overall. The course covered all kinds of terrain, from single-track trails through steep coastal meadows, to soft dirt roads through redwood forests, to rocky & exposed climbing up the side of Mt. Tamalpais. The total elevation gain was ~ 10,000 ft. The 10 aid stations were fully stocked with all sorts of food (the best was the boiled potato chunks dipped in salt) and friendly volunteers. Hot soup and cold showers awaited us at the finish. We couldn't have asked for a better first ultra-running experience.
