What a great day! We were lucky that Jim let us into this run at the
last minute. It was a fantastic training run and a great group of people
to run with. The weather was nice, very sunny but a merciful cool breeze
that blew the whole day. The course was unmarked, and we have a few
oopsies following the map and written instructions. In particular, we
went about a mile out of our way, uphill, near the end of the run, and an
extra uphill mile after 45 already threatens morale... but luckily on our
detour we saw a HUGE tarantula, the first time we've seen one in the wild.
It was so cool and big and furry, it totally made up for the accidental
detour. It was a great confidence boost to finish under 10 hours
(barely!) and as an extra bonus, finishing fast just gave us more time to
hang out with Wendell and Sarah and Aaron at the finish line.
Thanks a TON to Jim and Sandy for organizing, and to Sarah and Aaron
for providing fruit and water and encouragement all over the course, and
to Wendell for staying just out of reach and providing motivation to keep
running...
